Expedition Cruise
"MS Roald Amundsen", Hurtigruten
Are you dreaming of a voyage to the coldest continent on earth? Antarctica is fascinating for humans from all over the world, but just a few of them have the ability to visit this impressive part of our planet.
We have recently tested the first hybrid expedition vessel, operated by Hurtigruten. The brand new "MS Roald Amundsen" is equipped with modern, low emission engines and two huge battery packs, follwing the big demand for sustainable travel solutions.
In comparison to most expedition ships, "MS Roald Amundsen" and its new sister ship "MS Fridtjof Nansen" are much bigger. Both ships have a capacity of up to 500 guests, when sailing in Antarctica.
Our expedition cruise was the third voyage of "MS Roald Amundsen" to Antarctica. The 18-day-voyages from Punta Arenas to Antarctica and to the Falkland Islands start in Santiago de Chile. Hurtigruten charters planes to bring their guests to Punta Arenas in the south of Chile, where they can board the new vessel and start sailing towards the coldest and most remote continent on earth.
This gallery will contain photo impressions of all three destinations and the new hybrid vessel. Video impressions will follow in a few weeks.

Have you ever seen the Polar Ice Edge in the Arctic? We did an Expedition Cruise with Poseidon Expeditions "MV Sea Spirit" from Longyearbyen along Svalbards coast up to the Ice Edge, which was surprisingly far south this year. We also got a once in a lifetime chance to go kayaking along the Ice Edge.
Expedition Cruise with Latitude Blanche
Since we became big fans on the expedition vessel "MV Polarfront" in summer, we`ve decided to also join it for a cruise along the coast of North Norway. This voyage started in Tromsø and ended in the Lofoten islands. Despite our passion for snow and ice, the Autumn season has some advantages as well. ;-)

Enjoy photo and video impressions of a late Arctic summer expedition in Svalbard. This expedition was even special for us, because we were sailing with a beautiful, 12 guest vessel and had the best captain possible: Sophie. She was constantly creating highlights, that even we`ve never done before!

There aren`t many train routes above the Arctic Circle. But one of them is the Arctic-Circle-Train that connects the Norwegian Coast with the Swedish Coast. These trains are running between Narvik in Norway, via Kiruna and Boden in Swedish Lapland, to Luleå on the Swedish Coast. The part between Narvik and Kiruna is called the "Arctic-Circle-Train".
