"MS Roald Amundsen", Hurtigruten
Are you dreaming of a voyage to the coldest continent on earth? Antarctica is fascinating for humans from all over the world, but just a few of them have the ability to visit this impressive part of our planet.
We have recently tested the first hybrid expedition vessel, operated by Hurtigruten. The brand new "MS Roald Amundsen" is equipped with modern, low emission engines and two huge battery packs, follwing the big demand for sustainable travel solutions.
In comparison to most expedition ships, "MS Roald Amundsen" and its new sister ship "MS Fridtjof Nansen" are much bigger. Both ships have a capacity of up to 500 guests, when sailing in Antarctica.
Our expedition cruise was the third voyage of "MS Roald Amundsen" to Antarctica. The 18-day-voyages from Punta Arenas to Antarctica and to the Falkland Islands start in Santiago de Chile. Hurtigruten charters planes to bring their guests to Punta Arenas in the south of Chile, where they can board the new vessel and start sailing towards the coldest and most remote continent on earth.
This gallery will contain photo impressions of all three destinations and the new hybrid vessel. Video impressions will follow in a few weeks.

Have you ever seen the Polar Ice Edge in the Arctic? We did an Expedition Cruise with Poseidon Expeditions "MV Sea Spirit" from Longyearbyen along Svalbards coast up to the Ice Edge, which was surprisingly far south this year. We also got a once in a lifetime chance to go kayaking along the Ice Edge.
Expedition Cruise with Latitude Blanche
Since we became big fans on the expedition vessel "MV Polarfront" in summer, we`ve decided to also join it for a cruise along the coast of North Norway. This voyage started in Tromsø and ended in the Lofoten islands. Despite our passion for snow and ice, the Autumn season has some advantages as well. ;-)

One of the best train rides on this planet is the Aurora Winter Train by Alaska Railroad. The train ride between Anchorage and Fairbanks is really impressive in all seasons, but especially in winter. It`s called the most beautiful sea voyage on earth. And I totally agree with that! I did this voyage more than 20 times and I can`t wait to do it again - This gallery may gives you an idea why. The small Hurtigruten ships on the traditional "Norwegian Coastal Express" route stop in 34 ports along
There aren`t many train routes above the Arctic Circle. But one of them is the Arctic-Circle-Train that connects the Norwegian Coast with the Swedish Coast. These trains are running between Narvik in Norway, via Kiruna and Boden in Swedish Lapland, to Luleå on the Swedish Coast. The part between Narvik and Kiruna is called the "Arctic-Circle-Train".
This resort is the cherry on top of the imposing state Alaska. It is located about 60 miles east of Fairbanks in the center of the state. Very remote - in absolut wilderness. This gallery gives you an idea, how it feels to swim in the hot oudoor pool, looking at the most impressive winter landscape possible.
It`s the world`s first ice hotel, located up in the North of Swedish Lapland. A truely wonderful place, where ice becomes art. Every room is a piece of art itself. Most of them sadly melt away in April every year. But since 2016, a few of them are getting a chance to survive, until the winter is back in Lapland.
Let the North entertain you and fall asleep in an iglu
